Do I really need to have my wisdom teeth taken out?

Are you having pain from wisdom teeth?  Have you ever wondered why wisdom teeth can be a problem?  Do you have questions about what could happen if you ignore them?  We look forward to looking at them and talking to you about it. They may be fine the way they are or we may need to intervene. Call it evolution or call it luck of the draw, but some of us have room for the wisdom teeth and some of us don’t.  Some of us never even have wisdom teeth develop.  More often than not, they tend to cause more harm than good and should be removed.  However, if you have enough room in your mouth to accommodate the teeth and you are able to keep them clean, then there is no reason to just take them out.  These teeth may be pushing on the teeth in front of them, resulting in resorption of those healthy teeth.  If partially erupted, they may act as food traps and cause cavities and pain in the teeth in front of them.  There are particular advantages to address the wisdom teeth at a particular age so it is important to have them evaluated fairly often in your late teens and twenty’s.  We would be happy to evaluate your situation and provide feedback on the best way to handle it.  Visit Precision Dental Center in Chesterton, Indiana, to let us take a look at your wisdom teeth.

Does it damage my teeth to whiten them?  How can I get my teeth whiter?  There are many things that can cause your teeth to discolor over time including diet and age. Luckily, there are many things that can help!  There are also things that are supposed to help, but can actually harm your teeth and make the discoloration worse over time.  Whitening is very popular and can be fine if done correctly.  Teeth Whitening: Many whitening toothpastes are abrasive to remove surface stains and keep teeth white.  However, if an abrasive toothpaste is used with too stiff of a toothbrush, you can actually scrub away healthy tooth structure and expose the yellow part of the tooth that is below the enamel.  This makes it more difficult to whiten in the future and can cause serious problems.  There are whitening methods that utilize a light while you sit in the dental chair and there are also take home kits.  With so many options, it is easy to get confused on what is best for you.  It is imperative to know all of the options as well as the risks and benefits of each one.  There are many different ways to whiten you smile and each individual is different.  We would love to have you come in to discuss all of your whitening options.  In the meantime, avoid red wine, coffee, cigarettes, and tea. We all have our vices but these take a toll on our teeth.  Come visit Precision Dental Center in Chesterton, Indiana for some great ways to get a beautiful smile!
