Does it really matter which toothbrush I use?

Does it really matter which toothbrush I use?  ABSOLUTELY!!  Toothbrushes, like shoes, are not a "One Size Fits All" deal.  Toothbrush options:  You are unique and your toothbrush should be chosen with your needs in mind. Medium and hard toothbrushes may cause more harm than good if you are brushing too hard.  They may seem to work better if that is what you are used to, but we continue to see toothbrush abrasion caused by either too stiff of a toothbrush, brushing too hard, or too abrasive of a toothpaste.  Many times, we see a combination of all three of these!  Some toothbrushes are made with the gums in mind and are very soft.  There are even toothbrushes with tongue scrubbers on them to remove some of the buildup on the tongue.  Battery powered toothbrushes have improved the oral hygiene for many people and are extremely effective.  Some of the battery toothbrushes let you know when you are brushing too hard and will even link up to your smartphone to help you (and your dentist) monitor your brushing habits.  Be aware that not all battery operated toothbrushes are created equal.  We would love to discuss the options with you.  Stop in to Precision Dental Center and see which toothbrush is best for you!
